Assassin’s Creed Creator Sues Ubisoft for Rights to New Game

Patrice Desilets, former Assassin’s Creed Creative Director, is suing Ubisoft for the rights to his planned game, 1666: Amsterdam, GamesIndustry International reported over the weekend.

Desilets is apparently seeking $400,000 in damages, his claim based upon a clause in his contract pertaining to his “turnaround rights”, which enable him to retain the rights in the event of the game’s cancellation of termination of his contract without cause.

He was fired in May after a disagreement with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot over the terms of his contract, citing that then employer THQ had given him “too much creative freedom”.

This is not the first time that Desilets and Ubisoft have got involved in a legal dispute, as Ubisoft filed a lawsuit alleging that Desilets poached employees from Ubisoft Montreal when he founded THQ Montreal in 2011, only a year after leaving Ubisoft Montreal.

The court filing and exhibits can be downloaded at GameInformer, here.
